Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu is pleased to have made a winning start of their seven-match league, catch-up on Thursday with a 2-0 home win over last placed Chambishi.
The match at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka came 48 hours after arriving from Mali where Zanaco had just secure their group stage spot in the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup last Sunday in Bamako where they lost 2-0 to Binga FC but qualified 3-2 on aggregate.
Both goals on Thursday came in the opening quarter of the first half through Ernest Mbewe in the 5th minute and Emmanuel Manda in the 14th minute.
“The league is still open we have seen teams move from bottom to the top just after a few wins so nothing is a given at the moment” Kaindu said.
The win lifts Zanaco out of the top four of the relegation zone from 15th to 13th on 17 points after 12 games played with three matches in hand.
Bottom placed Chambishi have 12 points from 15 matches played.
Meanwhile, Zanaco are on the road this Sunday in Ndola to play Indeni in their second of a seven-match series between now and December 20.
Zanaco will then return home for midweek date against visitors Red Arrows in a Lusaka derby game on December 15.
