Beston Chambeshi believes Sunday’s Kitwe derby triumph is a catalyst for Nkana’s 2021/2022 FAZ Super League title ambitions.
Nkana on Sunday convincingly beat their Kitwe archrivals Power Dynamos 2-0 at home.
The victory lifted Nkana from fifth to third on 25 points and moved them within five points of leaders Green Buffaloes.
Nkana are also two points adrift of second placed Green Eagles at the end of the penultimate round of fixtures before the mid-season break.
“We cannot run away from that, Nkana is a big team and we are championship material and we are a team that fights for glory,” Chambeshi said.
“We will take this win, and with patience, we are taking each game with that serious approach and we will reach our destiny.”
A Paul Banda own-goal in the 5th minute and Gilroy Chimwemwe’s wonderful volley in the 70th minute propelled Nkana to their first derby win at home over Power since 2015.
Meanwhile, Nkana’s current top three status is now a far cry from their 2020/2021 woes when Chambeshi was hired on a mercy mission in the last two months of that campaign.
Chambeshi successfully saved the record 13-time Zambian champions from relegation just a season after lifting the FAZ Super League title.
