Zesco United striker Jesse Were has issued his mid-season report card on the defending FAZ Super League champions.

The champions have posted modest results in their opening sixteen games with a match in hand as they head into the Christmas weekend to complete their obligations for the first half of the season.

Zesco are currently fifth on 25 points, five points behind leaders Green Buffaloes.

“I can say the season has not been good for us. It has been up-and-down but we are staying focused because you know, it is a marathon, “Were told SuperSport.

“We are not far away from the log leaders, we are like five points away from them and we know what we want. Again, like I said, it is a marathon.”

Meanwhile, the Kenyan striker is seemingly a barometer of Zesco’s current form and the clubs’ all-time leading scorer has just managed two league goals this term.

“For me as a striker, yes it has been below par but it is all about teamwork,” Were said.

“It is not always about an individual and that is why we have managed to get 25 points at the midway point of the season.”
