Kaizer Chiefs claimed a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United in one of six 2021/22 DStv Premiership matches on Wednesday.

Victory moved the Amakhosi up to third place on the league standings as they ended the year with three wins from their last four matches. Khama Billiat continued his good form with a goal and assist; teeing up Nkosingiphile Ngcobo for the game’s second.

Defeat at FNB Stadium leaves Maritzburg in 13th spot, two points above the relegation zone following a second loss to Chiefs this season.

Stellenbosch FC started the day’s action with a dramatic 1-0 win over TS Galaxy who ended the day in last place on the league standings.

The match at Mbombela Stadium seemed to be heading for a goalless stalemate when Given Msimango put the ball past his own goalkeeper two minutes from time, to hand Stellies the victory that took them up to second.

Chippa United and Sekhukhune United played to a 0-0 draw at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha in the only match that failed to conjure a goal.

Babina Noko slipped down to eighth as a result while Chippa’s improved run of results has moved them three points clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Lamontville Golden Arrows fought back to hold Swallows FC to a 2-2 draw at Dobsonville Stadium.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Mwape Musonda handed the hosts a 2-0 lead but Abafana Bes’thende hit back through a Michael Gumede brace to earn a point on their travels.

Baroka FC edged past Royal AM 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium as they ended their 12-match winless run in the division.

Sekela Sithole’s late goal moved Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele off the foot of the table, but they will remain in the danger zone heading into the Christmas break.

SuperSport United finally returned to winning ways at the Lucas Moripe Stadium as they beat 10-man Cape Town City 3-2 in a thrilling league clash.

First-half goals from Gamphani Lungu and Teboho Mokoena put Kaitano Tembo’s side in a commanding position at the break, but Fagrie Lakay pulled one back from the penalty spot before Kegan Johannes scored at both ends of the pitch in the space of seven second-half minutes.

Thabo Nodada saw red for the visitors 10 minutes into the second half.
