Lusaka Dynamos are disappointed that they will not be defending their ABSA Cup crown.

Dynamos failed to make the top six cut after seventeen matches played at  the midway point of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League campaign and are currently third from bottom in  the relegation zone.

“It is very painful that as defending champions we failed to qualify for the ABSA Cup. It is not something we have taken so easily. It has pained us a lot,” coach Manchi Dynamos Janza told The Daily Nation.

In last year’s final, Dynamos beat the record six-time ABSA champions Zesco United 3-1 on post-match penalties following a 0-0 fulltime result.

It was Dynamos’ first  ABSA Cup final  appearance and only their second major silverware since  lifting  the 2008 BP Top 8 when, again, they met Zesco  whom they beat 1-0.

Meanwhile, the top six lineup for the 2022 ABSA Cup is almost complete.

League leaders Green Buffaloes, second placed Green Eagles including Nkana and Red Arrows are the top four sides who have confirmed their places.

Nkwazi, Zesco and Kabwe Warriors top six status in Fridays respective rescheduled games involving the latter two teams.
