Pitso Mosimane added to his growing trophy cabinet as Al Ahly held their nerve from the spot to clinch TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup glory in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils successfully defended their crown in dramatic fashion. Raja Casablanca looked on course for a second Super Cup title since 2019, but Al Ahly leveled matters at 1-1 through Taher Mohamed deep into second half regulation time before coming up trumps from the spot.
South Africa’s Percy Tau played a pivotal role in the equaliser and scored his penalty in the shoot-out as Al Ahly continued their African dominance. Tau has directly contributed to six goals in seven matches since joining the Egyptian giants from Brighton & Hove Albion in August.
For Mosimane, the trophy was his fifth as Al Ahly head coach to go with a third-place finish at the FIFA Club World Cup.
In total, the former SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns boss has won 18 trophies including three CAF Champions League and three CAF Super Cup titles.
