Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu has described his makeshift central defensive pairing of Christopher Muhango and Kelvin Kapumbu as promising.

Midfielder Kapumbu has been temporarily deployed to defence where he is standing in for the injured Isaac Shamujompa and has played there in Zanaco’s last three games where he has been paired with Muhango.

Not even the introduction of veteran defender Ziyo Tembo in Friday’s 2-1 away win over Kabwe Warriors in the 70th minute for the injured Emmanuel Manda altered matters at the back.

Kaindu instead slotted Ziyo into an unfamiliar midfield role as Zanaco defended their lead away at Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu Stadium.

“The tactics worked well and when we brought in Ziyo, we pushed him into midfield because we didn’t want to disturb the pairing of Kapumbu and young Muhango which has been quite outstanding in the games that they have played together,” Kaindu said.

“We haven’t had those moments in terms of mistakes in the few games that they have played together.

“They look awesome and look great as a pair and are working for each other.”

Kapumbu and Muhango have been working together since December 15 starting with Zanaco’s 1-1 away draw against Kansanshi Dynamos.

Despite conceding three goals in as many games, 12th placed Zanaco are unbeaten on the duos’ watch with two draws and a win.
