Zanaco have been drawn in the North African Ring of Fire in the group stage of the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup.

Zambia’s last man standing in continental action this season will face an all-North African cast in Group A of the CAF Confederation Cup league phase that kicks off this February.

Zanaco’s opponents include a debut meeting against Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya.

Kelvin Kaindu’s side has two reunions; with one against record three-time CAF Confederation Cup champions CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.

The other is against 2019/2021 runners-up Pyramids FC who eliminated Zanaco in the quarterfinals that season.

Meanwhile, this is the second time Zanaco have been thrown into the North African Ring of Fire at the same stage.

When Zanaco made their league phase debut in 2010 of the same competition, they played eventual winners that season FUS Rabat of Morocco and Sfaxien who went on to lose in the all-Group B final.

Haras al-Hedood of Egypt finished bottom behind Group B third place finishers Zanaco.

Meanwhile, Al Ahli Tripoli will be facing their first Zambian opponents since meeting Red Arrows in the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup’s predecessor tournament during the 1984 CAF Cup Winners Cup.

Al Ahli Tripoli eliminated Arrows 3-2 on aggregate at that stage after a 3-0 home win in Libya.
