Napsa Stars have officially confirmed that they have parted ways with 2012 AFCON winning striker Emmanuel Mayuka.

The ex-Southampton striker has been conspicuously missing from the Napsa team this season following the Lusaka sides’ demotion from the FAZ Super League at the end of the 2020/2021 campaign.

“Napsa Stars has parted company with 2012 AFCON winning player Emmanuel Mayuka after two seasons with the club,” Napsa said in their November/December newsletter.

“Mayuka and Napsa reached an agreement to separate after the team was demoted from the Super League.”

The striker shined in what was a very difficult 2019/2020 season for Napsa that ultimately saw the Lusaka club relegated.

Mayuka scored six league goals and another five in the CAF Confederation Cup where they made a group stage debut that took a toll on Napsa as they battled to balance their continental and domestic obligations.

Meanwhile,  Napsa’s quest to make a quick return to the FAZ Super League is looking promising under  coach Perry Mutapa who was appointed at the start of their 2021/2022 FAZ  National  Division One  campaign.

Napsa, who have qualified for the 2022 ABSA Cup, are currently second on the log with 32 points from seventeen games at the midway point of the campaign.

They are two points behind Lumwana Radiants who were also demoted last term.
