Kabwe Warriors have made their third coaching change in six months following the appointment of Chris Kaunda.

Kaunda replaces Ian Bakala who left by mutual consent late on Monday and immediately thereafter Warriors announced their new man.

“Today the Executive has decided to make some changes to the Technical Bench. We have brought in Chris Kaunda and Josphat Nkhoma,” Warriors chairman Hayden Dingwall said in a statement.

“Chris comes with huge experience, he did very well at Zanaco and I think he comes with the experience that the club needs.”

Kaunda joins Warriors after he was dismissed by Zanaco last May in the closing stages of the 2020/2021 season.

Zanaco sidelined Kaunda after their FAZ Super League title hopes ended with four matches to spare that eventually saw them finish second behind Zesco United.

Meanwhile, Bakala leaves Warriors after he was promoted from assistant to head coach in September following the departure of Manfred Chabinga.

Chabinga barely lasted his first five competitive games into the start of the 2021/2022 season before quietly stepping down after failing to win a single match.

Bakala on the other hand has lasted less than a year at his boyhood club after joining them as assistant coach in April from Lusaka Dynamos before taking up an interim role following Levy Chabala’s sacking in the closing phase of the 2020/2021 campaign.

“Today we bid farewell to coach Ian Bakala. We thank him for the contribution he made to the club,” Dingwall said.

“We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Meanwhile, Warriors are currently 10th on the log on 23 points after seventeen games played and Kaunda’s first match back will be on January 8 at home against 15th placed Indeni.
