Egypt defender Ahmed Hegazi believes The Pharaohs are gradually heating up after advancing to the last 16 despite a modest start to their AFCON 2021 campaign.
Mohamed Abdel-Moneim headed-in the games’ only goal in the 35th minute from an Abdallah El Said corner.
“We could have scored more goals but today we were better. We take it step by step and we are improving each game,” Hegazi said in a post-match interview.
“As you can see, all the matches are difficult because all the teams now have good players and good coaches.
“We hope to progress to the final and win the trophy because that’s our dream.”
It was Egypt’s second successive Group d win since recovering from their opening day 1-0 loss to Nigeria on January 11 to beat Guinea Bissau by the same margin on January 15.
Egypt have finished second in Group D on 6 points, three points behind Nigeria while Guinea Bissau and Sudan bow out of the Cameroon tournament with a point each.
The record seven-time winners return to action on January 26 to face Group E winner where leaders Cote d’Ivoire have 4 points and face defending champions Algeria who are bottom on 1 point.
Equatorial Guinea are second in Group E on 3 points and face third placed Sierra Leone who have 2 points.
