Cote d’Ivoire striker Sebastian Haller has made an audacious declaration that nothing is going to stand in The Elephants way as they hunt for AFCON title number three.
The 2015 winners have a tricky last 16 date in the early Wednesday evening kickoff against record seven-time champions Egypt who have blown hot-and-cold to reach the knockout stage.
“We didn’t come here to play games, we came here with one goal in mind which is winning the Africa Cup of Nations,” Haller said at the pre-match briefing.
“We are ambitious, and we are growing together as a team.”
The Ajax Amsterdam hit-man headed to Cameroon with quite a reputation after scoring 10 UEFA Champions League goals this season and another 22 goals in domestic competitive action.
However, Haller has been a subdued figure in his AFCON debut where he has scored just one goal in three games but still enjoys a confidence vote from Cote d’Ivoire coach Patrice Beaumelle.
“It’s not easy to score even if you have what it takes, many factors can affect the performance on the pitch,” Haller said.
