Chipolopolo coach Aljosa Asanovic has stated that Enock Mwepu will be his Zambia captain.

The Brighton midfielder has shared the armband with Danish-based midfielder Lubambo Musonda.

“For me, it is Enock who will be my captain, ” Asanovic said on ZNBC TV1 on Wednesday.

“He will be captain of the national team because the guy has everything, he has the charisma, he is a good guy and has the personality.”

The 56-year-old Croat is very familiar with Mwepu after working with Chipolopolo between August and November 2021 as technical advisor during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifiers.

Asanovic was later hired as head coach on January 18 on a four-year deal.

His main mandate is to end Chipolopolo’s seven-year AFCON absence with qualification to the 2023 tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

Zambia has failed to qualify for the last three AFCONS.
