The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Africa Cup of Nations third and fourth place play-off will take place a day earlier on Saturday, February 5.
CAF originally decided to schedule the match on the same day as the final on Sunday, February 6 despite the play-off usually occurring 24 hours before the decider in previous editions.
There were exceptions in the early years when both games were played on the same day, but since the tournament was expanded to 12 teams and up this has only happened twice – in 1994 and 1996.
However, CAF has now brought the fixture forward by 24 hours following discussions with the Government of Cameroon and the Local Organising Committee.
Burkina Faso face hosts Cameroon, while Senegal will take on Egypt to see who will be crowned Africa’s newest champion.
