Ex-Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda has pulled out of the race for the Lesotho national team job despite making the final 15-man shortlist the Lesotho Football Association (LFA) has lined-up for interviews.

One hundred coaches applied for the Lesotho job that has been vacant following the departure of South African coach Thabo Senong in late 2021.

“There have been two withdrawals from the Lesotho Men National Teams Head Coach candidates. The first coach candidate to withdraw is former Likuena Head Coach, Mr Moses Maliehe who has cited personal reasons and the second is Mr. Wedson Nyirenda of Zambia who has indicated that something has come up for him and therefore is not available,”  the LFA  said in a statement.

“This development leaves the number of coach candidates to be interviewed at 13.”

Nyirenda was the only one of three Zambians who applied for the Lesotho job to have been invited for interviews.

Ex-Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza and former Zambia national team assistant trainer Osward Mutapa did not make the 15-man shortlist.
