Shepolopolo Zambia were held to scoreless home draw by Namibia on Wednesday in a 2022 Women’s AFCON final round, first leg qualifier at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Bruce Mwape’s side played all the football but lacked any form of potency in attack in a match they were clearly missing captain Barbara Banda due to a hamstring she sustained in last Saturdays 3-0 friendly win over South Africa at the same venue.
Rachel Kundananji too missed the game due to her club commitments in Spain but is due in this week for the final leg.
Without the duo, Grace Chanda was left to struggle upfront against a Namibia side that showed great discipline at the back soaking up the modest pressure from the hosts.
Shepolopolo goalkeeper Hazel Nali was sporadically tested by Namibia with the best effort from the visitors come through their influential forward Zenatha Coleman’s 80th minute long-range free kick that the Zambia number one confidently gathered.
Seven minutes later, Shepolopolo got off the hook when Nali fouled Coleman in the box that escaped referee Letticia Viana’s eye.
Zambia and Namibia meet in the final leg on February 22 in Johannesburg.
