The race for the CAF competition places remains tight after Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch drew their respective DStv Premiership matches on Wednesday evening.
The Buccaneers failed to capitalise on the teams below them dropping points this week after being held to a goalless draw by Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium in the late kick-off.
Abafana Bes’thende came closest to opening the scoring when Nduduzo Sibiya’s deflected free-kick struck the right post in the first half, with the two teams having to settle for a point apiece once more following their 10th draws of the season.
Pirates remain second in the table on 31 points, one ahead of the Maroons and two more than Kaizer Chiefs, who failed to beat Cape Town City on Tuesday, while Arrows are also unmoved in 10th place.
Earlier in the evening, Stellies missed out on the chance to leapfrog Bucs into second spot when Swallows scored a last-ditch equaliser to clinch a 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium.
Steve Barker’s side raced into an early lead courtesy of Zitha Kwinika’s 10th-minute opener, but they were denied all three points in dramatic fashion as Wandisile Letlabika struck deep into injury time to level matters for the Dube Birds.
The Soweto outfit climbed out of the relegation zone to trade places with Baroka, who had only escaped the bottom-two on Monday after earning a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Wednesday’s DStv Premiership results:
Stellenbosch 1-1 Swallows
Orlando Pirates 0-0 Golden Arrows
