Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi sounded a philosophical tone about their 2021/2022 FAZ Super League title chances after Saturday’s away loss to Zesco United saw them lose ground in the race.

The Kitwe giants lost 2-1 away to holders Zesco United in their big Copperbelt derby played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to suffer their third loss in seven games since the start of 2022.

Nkana’s inconsistent form has seen them punctuate each of those defeats with three wins and a draw.

“I think we have enough games remaining but we cannot say they are enough unless we are winning those matches so all I can say is the league is still on,” Chambeshi said.

The defeat left Nkana trailing ten points behind leaders Red Arrows on 36 and 46 points respectively with ten games left to play.

Meanwhile, Zesco were in command of the contest and took the lead in the 20th minute through Vincent Omuru but conceded a penalty three minutes later through a Clement Mwape handball that David Obashi converted.

John Chingandu sealed Zesco’s victory in the 54th minute to keep the home side third on 41 points.

“But we couldn’t play our usual attacking football and gave Zesco a lot of room. But yes, we have accepted the defeat and we have to look forward to the coming games,” Chambeshi said.

Nkana are at home in Kitwe this weekend where they will host a resurgent Kansanshi Dynamos who beat them 1-0 away in the first leg last October Solwezi.
