Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane has said that he would be “surprised” if he did not renew his contract with the Egyptian club.
The South African tactician has five months remaining on his current deal with the Red Devils and speculation has been rife in regards to his future in Cairo.
However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss told the ‘On the Whistle Podcast’ this past weekend that he fully expects to reach a new agreement with Al Ahly.
“I believe we will renew, if we don’t renew I’ll be surprised,” Mosimane is quoted by KingFut.
He added, “I’ll repeat to the next guy [who comes along], I don’t know what you’ll have to win.”
This is in reference to the fact that Mosimane has led Ahly to back-to-back CAF Champions league titles, CAF Super Cups, bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup and an Egyptian League title since he joined the team in 2020.
Mosimane also had special praise for rising star Mohamed Abdelmonem, who excelled for Egypt at the recent Africa Cup of Nations and has developed his game significantly under the guidance of the Ahly mentor.
“I think he’s a European [level] player, he’ll play in Europe, he’s quick, he’s young, he’s got a leap, he can jump, he can pass, he’s so comfortable on the ball,” Mosimane said of the 23-year-old defender.
Ahly and Mosimane, after opening their CAF Champions League Group A campaign with a draw against Al Hilal this past weekend, will look forward to facing Sundowns in Cairo on the evening of Saturday 26 February.
