Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has received a welcome boost with the news that Mohamed El Shenawy has returned to training ahead of his side’s CAF Champions League clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Egypt international has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Pharaohs’ win over Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations on January 26.
As a result, El Shenawy missed the Red Devils’ Club World Cup campaign as well as the Group A opener against Al Hilal in Africa’s premier club competition.
However, the Egyptian giants announced on Monday that the 33-year-old goalkeeper returned to training and has been included in the squad for the league visit of Misr Lel Makkasa in midweek.
“Mohamed El Shenawy, Al Ahly’s football first-team goalkeeper, took part in Monday’s training session at El Tetsh Stadium after recovering from his injury,” a statement from the club read.
“Our goalkeeper completed his recovery program and is now fit to participate in the team’s upcoming matches.”
