Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has received more welcome news with another three players returning to training this week ahead of his side’s CAF Champions League clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mosimane had welcomed back Mohamed El Shenawy on Monday after the 33-year-old goalkeeper recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the Egyptian giants announced via their website on Wednesday that Ali Maaloul, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mahmoud Metwally had all taken part in the training sessions at El Tetsh Stadium earlier in the day.
Left-back Maaloul had been sidelined with muscle fatigue after featuring for the Red Eagles at the Club World Cup. Fellow defender Abdelmonem suffered a head injury in the goalless draw against Al Halil in their Group A opener last week.
Meanwhile, centre-back Metwally had undergone a special recovery program in Doha after picking up an anterior muscle problem on December 11 in a friendly against league rivals Tala’ea El Gaish.
The return of the trio is timely as the defending champions prepare to take on the Brazilians in Group A’s matchday two on Saturday at the Cairo International Stadium.
