Zesco United midfielder John Chingandu scored a brace on Saturday to guide defending FAZ Super League champions to an important 3-0 away win over Green Buffaloes at Woodlands Stadium that saw them stay in touch with leaders Red Arrows.

The champions stayed third despite the victory but moved within two points of Arrows who only play this Sunday away at Forest Rangers in Ndola where a win would restore their four-point lead over second placed Green Eagles.

Chingandu scored in the 22nd and 59th minutes while midfielder Chanda Mukuka completed the rout in the 74th minute to see Zesco collect back-to-back wins after a 2-1 home win over Nkana in their Copperbelt derby on February 19 in Ndola.

The brace also saw Chingandu consolidate his spot as Zesco’s top scorer this season on 8 goals.

Chingandu is now three goals behind Kafue Celtic striker Albert Kangwanda who is closing in on top scorer Friday Samu’s 14 goals who made a January move to Maritzburg United in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Zesco have 44 points, one behind Green Eagles who defeated bottom placed Chambishi FC 1-0 at home in Choma courtesy of an Emmanuel Mwaba’s 90th minute goal.

Buffaloes stay fourth despite the defeat on 38 points, tied with Buildcon and Power Dynamos with nine games left before the FAZ Super League top four status for this season is confirmed.
