Four matches were played in the DStv Premiership this weekend, with Royal AM and Swallows picking up massive wins for very different reasons.
Saturday’s action kicked off at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium, where Marumo Gallants staged a late fightback to beat Chippa United 3-2.
After Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo (30′) had given Bahlabane Ba Ntwa the lead, a brace from Eva Nga Bienvenu (37′, 54′) turned the tide in the Chilli Boys’ favour. However, Ndlondlo restored parity from the penalty spot on 83 minutes and Joseph Malongoane secured a dramatic win at the death.
Gallants pulled five points clear of the relegation zone in 11th place, while Chippa dropped to 15th position, three points off the foot of the table.
Elsewhere, Swallows climbed out of the drop zone once more following a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at Ellis Park. Mwape Musonda’s 50th-minute goal handed the Dube Birds’ their first win in seven games as they moved up to 13th place, with Babina Noko remaining on 28 points in sixth position.
In the late kick-off, Kaizer Chiefs needed a 94th-minute goal from Khama Billiat to clinch a 1-0 win over Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Amakhosi climbed above arch-rivals Orlando Pirates into third place as Bakgaga prop up the standings on 14 points, three adrift of safety.
Meanwhile, Royal AM moved into the CAF Champions League places after they beat SuperSport United 2-0 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
Goals either side of the break from Mxolisi Macuphu (10′) and Victor Letsoalo (76′ PEN) secured victory for Thwihli Thwahla, who leapfrogged Chiefs and Pirates into second spot. Matsatsantsa remain unmoved in eighth position.
Saturday’s results:
Chippa United 2-3 Marumo Gallants
