Record six-time champions Zesco United have been drawn against Green Eagles in the 2022 ABSA Cup quarterfinals.

The draw will see two teams currently sitting in the top three of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League title go head-to-head in the ABSA Cup last eight.

Eagles are currently second on the log on 45 points, while Zesco are third and a point behind with nine matches left.

This will be their second ever ABSA Cup meeting since Zesco beat Eagles 4-2 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 2013 quarterfinals.

But Eagles have not enjoyed much luck in the ABSA Cup and their best-ever finish was a semifinal place in 2009.

In the other quarterfinal draws, Lumwana Radiants return to the ABSA Cup for the first time since 2015 when they lost 3-0 at the same stage to Zanaco.

Lumwana face 2018 champions Nkana and are one of the two promotion chasing sides to qualify for the tournament after making the top two at the mid-way point of the FAZ National Division One.

The other team is Napsa Stars, who face Green Buffaloes, and both are ex-champions in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

Current FAZ Super League leaders Red Arrows return to the ABSA Cup for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2013 and they play Nkwazi, who also end a seven-year hiatus from the competition.

The quarterfinals will be played in two doubleheader dates at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe during the weekend of March 12-13.

Nkana versus Lumwana and Zesco versus Eagles will kick-off the show on March 12.

The semifinals will be played on April 2 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka and the final is scheduled on April 16 across town at National Heroes Stadium.

Meanwhile, there will be a new champion this year after holders Lusaka Dynamos failed to make the top six at the halfway point of the FAZ Super League.

Dynamos beat Zesco 3-1 on post-match penalties following a scoreless draw to clinch the 2021 ABSA Cup.
