Zamalek have appointed Jesualdo Ferreira as their new head coach just four days after parting company with Patrice Carteron.

The White Knights relieved Carteron of his duties on Monday following a poor run of results, bringing an end to his 11-month stay in Cairo.

Osama Nabih oversaw the midweek Premier League clash with Future as the defending champions came from two early goals down to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

However, club president Mortada Mansour has moved swiftly to name a permanent successor to Carteron by reuniting with Ferreira, who previously spent a successful nine months at the Cairo International Stadium in 2015.

The Portuguese tactician won the domestic double that year and just missed out on the Egyptian Super Cup after losing 3-2 to arch-rivals Al Ahly.

“Ferreira is the new coach of the Zamalek club. He is a competent coach who has previously coached the team and achieved the league and cup double,” Mansour said in a statement on the club’s official website.

“The details of his contract have been finalised, and the contract will be for a season and a half.”
