Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates dropped points in the DStv Premiership on Saturday, while their Gauteng rivals Kaizer Chiefs secured a win.


Chiefs claimed a 2-1 win over Pirates in the Soweto Derby encounter at the Orlando Stadium as Amakhosi completed league couple over their arch-rivals.


The result left the two biggest football clubs in South Africa, Chiefs and Pirates, in second place and fourth spot respectively on the league standings.


While Sundowns succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg at the Harry Gwala Stadium and it was the Tshwane giants’ second loss of the season in the competition.


However, Sundowns, who are the defending champions, remain at the top of the standings – 16 points above second-placed Chiefs.


At the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Baroka FC snapped their four-match winless run when they defeated TS Galaxy 1-0 courtesy of Sbonelo Ngubane’s first-half goal.


Meanwhile, Cape Town City bounced back to winning ways when they edged out Sekhukhune United 2-1 at the DHL Stadium with Khayiso Mayo scoring the winning goal.


Lastly, SuperSport United claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over AmaZulu FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium with Jesse Donn and Iqraam Rayners scoring for the hosts.
