The race for promotion from the GladAfrica Championship to the DStv Premiership has tightened even further following a weekend in which six of the eight matches finished in draws.

Just five points separates the top six teams with nine rounds of the season to play, with Richards Bay remaining well placed in first spot thanks to a three-point lead over the chasing pack.

The round opened on Friday 4 March with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila claiming a 2-1 home win over Pretoria Callies thanks to goals from Rhulani Manzini and Rendani Ndou.

Saturday 5 March saw four draws recorded across the country, as leaders Richards Bay were held 0-0 at home by second-placed Polokwane City at the King Zwelithini Stadium, while the clash between Black Leopards and Hungry Lions in Thohoyandou also ended goalless.

TS Sporting and Cape Town All Stars shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Kabokweni Stadium, while Uthongathi FC and Free State Stars grappled to a 0-0 stalemate in their clash at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

Sunday 6 March saw JDR Stars and Pretoria University make it a three-way tie in the chasing pack behind the Natal Rich Boyz (38 points), as they joined Polokwane on 35 points.

Stars were held 1-1 at Venda Football Academy (who themselves are on 33 points in sixth) to be placed fourth, with the game featuring goals from Rophney Hlungwane and Malebogo Modise.

AmaTuks were the big winners, moving up to third with a 2-0 win away to Platinum City Rovers, with strikes from Thabang Sibanyoni and Kamohelo Pheeane.

The final clash on Sunday saw Jomo Cosmos remain just one point above last-placed Leopards with a 1-1 draw away to Cape Town Spurs.

The GladAfrica Championship will continue with a full round of fixtures scheduled for Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 March.
