Mumamba Numba says Zesco United have gathered huge momentum after winning their last three league games to give them a push in this weekend’s 2022 ABSA Cup quarterfinal date against Green Eagles.
The record six-time ABSA Cup winners Zesco face Eagles in a last eight fixture on March 12 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Saturday’s ABSA Cup clash comes in the midst of a good spell for Zesco in the league after beating Konkola Blades 2-0 at home on March 6 following a 3-0 away win at Green Buffaloes on February 26 in Lusaka and a 2-1 victory over visiting Nkana on February 19.
Furthermore, Saturday’s home win over Blades also saw Zesco rise from third to second, exchanging places with their ABSA Cup opponents Eagles who drew 0-0 on the same date across town at Indeni.
“Of course it is a motivation on our part going into the ABSA Cup this weekend after a victory,” Numba said.
“I think last year the ABSA title eluded us in the final and we hope this time around we get to the final again and like the trophy.”
In the 2021 ABSA Cup final, Zesco lost 3-1 on post-match penalties to Lusaka Dynamos after a scoreless draw to deny Numba the prospect of a double in his debut season in charge in which he subsequently won the 2020/2021 FAZ super League title.
Dynamos are not going to defend the ABSA Cup after failing to make the top six cut at the halfway point of the season.
