The University of Pretoria and Royal AM progressed to the 2021-22 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after winning their Last 16 matches on Friday.


Royal AM claimed a 1-0 victory over fellow South African top-flight side Swallows FC in an encounter that was played at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.


Kabelo Mahlasela proved to be the hero for Thwihli Thwahla as he grabbed a late goal which earned the Durban-based side a spot in the quarter-finals.


While Amaswaiswai bowed out of the tournament after suffering their second defeat to Royal AM in six days having also lost 1-0 to Thwihli Thwahla in a DStv Premiership clash on Sunday.


Meanwhile, the University of Pretoria defeated fellow GladAfrca Championship outfit Venda Football Academy 4-3 on penalties at the Thohoyandou Stadium in Limpopo.


The round-of-16 clash finished 3-3 after extra time as the lead exchanged hands on three occasions throughout the 120 minutes.


Also known as AmaTuks, the University of Pretoria’s goals were scored by Thabang Sibanyoni, Keegan Allan and Wonderboy Makhubu in the six-goal thriller.


While Banele Gama, Rankoko Tau and Gerald Takwara all found the back of the net for Venda.
