It was a bad day at the office for the home teams in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday as only Royal AM managed to win in their own backyard.

Mamelodi Sundowns restored their 11-point lead over Royal AM following a 4-2 victory over Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium in the late kick-off.

Peter Shalulile (10′, 15′, 90′) bagged a hat-trick and Surprise Ralani (28′) also got his name on the scoresheet for the Brazilians, while Dillon Solomons (16′) and Ruzaigh Gamildien (89′) replied for the Dube Birds.

Thwihli Thwahla had earlier cut the gap to eight points with a 2-0 win against Marumo Gallants at Chatsworth Stadium.

Victor Letsoalo (30′) opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Lesego Manganyi (55′) sealed the victory early in the second half as John Maduka’s side went four points clear of third-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Cape Town City went level with Amakhosi on 39 points courtesy of a 1-0 triumph over Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Khanyisa Mayo (45′) converted one penalty and missed another as the Citizens registered their fourth win on the trot to bolster their chances of a top-two finish.

Elsewhere, Fortune Makaringe (82′) scored the only goal of the game as Orlando Pirates edged Sekhukhune United 1-0 at Ellis Park to close within one point of arch-rivals Chiefs in fifth spot, while Luvuyo Memela struck at the death to hand AmaZulu a 1-0 win against basement boys Baroka at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It was Brandon Truter’s first victory since replacing Benni McCarthy at the helm and lifted Usuthu up to seventh position in the standings.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch halted an alarming five-match winless streak when they beat Golden Arrows 2-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Second-half goals from Jayden Adams (55′) and Ashley Du Preez (85′) clinched the victory that took the Maroons to within three points of the top three in sixth spot.

Royal AM 2-0 Marumo Gallants

Golden Arrows 0-2 Stellenbosch
