Al Ahly legend Wael Gomaa has lauded Liverpool FC superstar Mohamed Salah as the best player in the history of Egyptian football.
This comes after Salah hinted he would retire from international football after he failed to inspire the Pharaohs to the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals as they lost to Senegal in the final round of qualifying.
Widely considered to be among the best footballers in the world, the 29-year-old winger also captained Egypt as they finished second behind Senegal at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.
Gomaa, who won three AFCON titles with Egypt, would love to see Salah lift a trophy with the record African champions before he quits the international stage.
“I hope he wins a major trophy with the Egyptian national team,” Gomaa said on KingFut.
“[Mohamed] Salah is the best player in Egyptian football history, he’s a legend and he added a lot to the national team.
“Despite being one of the best players in the world, he always shows commitment to the team and respect to everyone.”
Salah was also part of the Egypt side which finished as runner-up in the 2017 AFCON finals and he was top scorer during CAF qualification as Egypt qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The former Egypt under-20 and under-23 international was named CAF African Footballer of the Year (2017 and 2018) and BBC African Footballer of the Year (2017 and 2018).
He was selected in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament, 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament and the CAF Team of the Year on several occasions.
