African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates were in action in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday.
Pirates were held to a goalless draw by Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium as the Soweto giants missed an opportunity to climb up to third on the league standings.
The result left the Soweto side in fourth place and put a dent in their hopes of claiming second at the end of the season, while Baroka remained at the bottom of the log.
Meanwhile, Peter Shalulile scored an unprecedented second successive hat-trick in the South African top-flight as Sundowns thrashed Golden Arrows 6-0 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The result sees the Brazilians open a 14-point lead over nearest chasers Royal AM (who have played a game less) as they close in on a fifth successive league title.
While Abafana Bes’thende suffered a second successive defeat to remain in the ninth spot – outside of the top half on goal difference.
Lastly, Swallows FC eased their relegation concerns when they drew 1-1 with Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night.
Despite the draw, Amaswaiswai climbed out of the relegation zone they are now placed 14th on the standings as they look to retain their status in the elite league.
While the Team of Choice remained 12th on the table after fighting back against the Soweto giants.
