Swallows beat fellow DStv Premiership strugglers Baroka in a five-goal thriller on Sunday, while Royal AM had to settle for a share of the derby spoils against AmaZulu.
Royal AM opened the door for the five clubs below them in the race for CAF Champions League football after playing out to a goalless draw with AmaZulu in a local affair at Chatsworth Stadium.
Thwihli Thwahla had the chance to go seven points clear of third-placed Cape Town City, who could move into the runners-up spot in the league if they win their two games in hand.
Usuthu remain unbeaten under new head coach Brandon Truter following two wins in his first two matches at the helm, with the stalemate keeping them a point ahead of eighth-placed SuperSport United.
Meanwhile, Swallows climbed back out of the relegation zone after they came from behind to edge rock-bottom Baroka 3-2 at the Dobsonville Stadium.
Bakgaga took the lead through Sekela Sithole (20′) and they looked to be cruising when Richard Mbulu (49′) doubled their advantage, but a quick-fire brace from Mwape Musonda (62′, 63′) levelled matters before Musa Nyatama completed the dramatic comeback win three minutes from time.
The Dube Birds traded places with TS Galaxy to move up to 14th position, leaving Baroka rooted firmly to the foot of the table on 18 points, five adrift of safety with just four fixtures left to play in the season.
