Zambia’s national women’s team will host their Botswana counterparts for two friendly international matches in the coming days.
FAZ spokesperson Sydney Mungala told AfricanFootball that the first friendly will be played on April 29 and May 2 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Bruce Mwape’s team entered camp in Lusaka on Tuesday for their first assignment since they secured qualification to the 2022 Women’s AFCON in February on the away goals rule, following a 1-1 aggregate result against Namibia.
Mwape will feature an all-local ensemble in what will be Shepolopolo and Botswana’s first-ever friendly dates at senior level.
Shepolopolo and Botswana are using the two friendlies to prepare for the WAFCON tournament Morocco is going to host from July 2-23.
Interestingly, the April 29 friendly will come hours before the tournament draws are made in Rabat that may just see the two sides placed in the same group.
Both teams are unseeded heading into the draws for the 12-team, three group tournament where the seeded sides are Cameroon, defending champions Nigeria and hosts Morocco.
The seedings are based on the teams’ current status on the Women’s FIFA Rankings, while Morocco are seeded as WAFCON hosts.
Meanwhile, Shepolopolo are heading for their second successive WAFCON tournament, and third overall, since making a group stage exit at Ghana 2018.
