South Africa international Percy Tau’s exploits during Al Ahly’s emphatic victory over ES Setif have caught the eye of Egyptian legend Wael Gomaa.
The 27-year-old forward played a vital role in helping the Egyptian football powerhouse secure a 4-0 win over the Algerian giants in the CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg clash on Saturday.
Tau scored twice and grabbed two assists on the night and Gomaa, who achieved legendary status at Al Ahly as a defender, said it’s the Witbank-born star’s best display in the red shirt.
“ES Setif were better in the past games unlike their performance,” Gomaa said on King Fut.
“I’m happy that the spirit is back, we want the team like this. Al Ahly’s board is the only one in Africa that provides everything to the players and the coaching staff.
“This is Percy Tau’s best match with Al Ahly. I hope that the performance and spirit of the players won’t stop after today. We are not used to compromising between the win or performance,” he added.
“Those who work in Al Ahly are never relaxed. Pitso Mosimane has not been subjected to this pressure since the club brought him, and the last period was a lesson for him and his players.
“Zinedine Zidane said during his tenure at Real Madrid that if I win 10 matches the fans will demand victory at the 11th. The pressure cannot end, and will not end in Al Ahly.
Tau has scored eight goals in 24 competitive matches for Al Ahly this season having joined the Cairo-based giants from English club Brighton and Hove Albion in August last year.
