Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum is not concerned that Franck Mbella Etouga missed two penalties in the 1-1 draw with Aduana Stars on Sunday.
The 20-year-old forward leads the scoring charts in the Ghana Premier League and bagged his 19th goal of the season to put the Porcupine Warriors ahead at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Etouga had an opportunity to grab a hat-trick against Ogya, but failed to convert two spot-kicks and the league leaders were made to pay when Bright Adjei scored a late equaliser.
However, Ogum leapt to the defence of the Cameroonian youngster after the game, stating that he will continue to take their penalties as he has a good conversion rate.
The Ghanaian tactician claimed his side were just unlucky on the day, although the result didn’t prove too costly as Bechem United drew 1-1 with Hearts of Oak on Saturday to remain nine points behind the Kumasi giants in the title race.
“We were just not lucky, not (at) all. I didn’t want to change him because he’s been playing and scoring our penalties,” Ogum said in his post-match press conference.
“This isn’t the first he is missing a penalty. I think he did that when we went to Elmina Sharks, I spoke with him, he got his confidence back and was scoring but it’s unfortunate he missed this time.
“He scored a good goal. We could have gone up by three goals but we couldn’t. It’s game over and we can’t do anything about the scoreline, we only have to encourage the young man to get his confidence back so that in subsequent games he can give us what he’s been giving to us.”
