Sporting Clube de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim has stated that Algerian striker Islam Slimani is not a part of his plans for next season.

The 33-year-old Slimani has registered four goals and one assist from nine appearances (mostly as a substitute) in the Portuguese top flight this season.

The Fennec Foxes player returned to Sporting in the January transfer window, joining from French club Olympique Lyon and signing a contract which runs to June 2023.

However, Amorim has made it clear that he has not place for Slimani in his squad when the 2022-23 season gets underway.

“Slimani is a completely closed subject for me,” said the Sporting coach, as quoted by DZFoot.

“I will follow my path. He [Slimani] will not be part of my idea for next season.

“This will be discussed with him and the management. For me, as a coach, the subject is closed.”

Slimani, who has 85 caps and 41 goals for Algeria, has also represented Leicester City, Newcastle United, Fenerbahce and Monaco in his European club career.
