Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane revealed who he thinks is the best referee in Africa, while also mentioning that he ‘ate humble pie’ regarding his stance on the official.
Mosimane and his charges will feature in the CAF Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca on Monday, May 30, at the Stade Mohammed V.
‘Jingles’, as he is affectionately known, equalled Manuel Jose’s feat of reaching three successive finals with Al Ahly between 2005 and 2007, while also becoming one of five coaches to win the trophy for two years running.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor will now be looking to claim his third CAF CL title with the club and also, the fourth of his illustrious career.
Ahead of the final, Mosimane took to his Twitter handle earlier this week and praised referee Victor Gomes, who will be officiating the CAF Champions League final. The ex-SuperSport United mentor revealed that he gives the South African ref his respect, while ranking him as the best on the continent.
“How I used to criticise Victor Gomes, at my humble pie a long time back and I am his biggest fan and he knows that,” Mosimane tweeted.
“I give him the respect that he deserves and he is currently No1 Referee in the Continent.
“Just finished watching Wydad vs A Petro Luyanda. The manner at which he managed the game, players, and the dugouts. Just like he managed Senegal vs Egypt.”
