SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates will wrap up the 2021-22 DStv Premiership season when they meet at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Monday 30 May, kick-off at 18h00.
SuperSport have gone four league matches without a win after they were beaten 3-1 at Baroka FC on May 14. Aubrey Ngoma scored their consolation goal. The Tshwane side needs to win this match to claim eighth place off Golden and Arrows and participate in next season’s MTN8.
Matsatsantsa have claimed 21 points from 14 home matches this season, with their last result as hosts a 2-2 draw with Swallows FC earlier this month.
Pirates saw their hopes of ending in second spot dashed on May 27 when they were held 2-2 by Royal AM. Deon Hotto and Kwame Peprah scored their goals. The Soweto side can still claim third place, but they will need to defeat SuperSport by five clear goals to do so.
The Buccaneers have claimed 17 points from 14 away matches this season. Their wins on the road have come against Chippa United, Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United.
In head-to-head stats, Pirates and SuperSport have met in 61 league matches since 1990. The Buccaneers have claimed 26 wins compared to 19 for Matsatsantsa, while 16 games have been drawn. The Tshwane side has won 13 of their 30 home league matches against their Soweto counterparts, suffering 10 defeats in the process.
When the teams met earlier this season, at Orlando Stadium in March 2022, Pirates came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 home win, thanks to a brace of penalties from Deon Hotto and late winner from Goodman Mosele.
