Marumo Gallants have made the startling announcement that head coach Dan Malesela will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
The Nedbank Cup winner was brought in to steady the ship in November after Bahlabane Ba Ntwa went winless in their opening nine games in the DStv Premiership.
Malesela immediately worked his magic as the Limpopo outfit embarked on a six-match unbeaten run, although their campaign eventually petered out with just one win coming from their final 10 league encounters.
The former Chippa United tactician, who led TS Galaxy to Nedbank Cup glory in 2019, guided Gallants to the final of this year’s competition as defending champions, but they lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns after extra time.
The club issued a statement on Twitter, which read: “Marumo Gallants has confirmed that the contract of coach Dan Malesela will not be renewed when it expires at the end of this month.
“The club would like to thank Malesela for his services during the last season and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Malesela expressed his disappointment at their decision, revealing that he found out about the news from his neighbour initially.
“My manager called to tell me that the chairman told him they wouldn’t be renewing my contract. I spoke to my manager after hearing from a neighbour,” he said on Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“I emailed the requirements for next season and the dates for the appearances of the players and more information. We were meant to sit and discuss but this never materialised.
“At the moment I feel like I have been used, I got to the club when it was at the bottom of the log. I am hoping to find a place where I will be taken care of and where I can take care of the club as well.”
