Charlton Athletic have announced the signing of Ghana’s No. 1 goalkeeper Joe Wollacott ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The 25-year-old joined the English League One club on a free transfer after leaving Swindon Town who are campaigning in League Two.
Wollacott was the Black Stars’ first-choice keeper at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon and he also helped the team qualify for the 2021 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
Charton made the announcement on their official website while also disclosing that he has joined the club on a three-year deal.
“Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Joe Wollacott, who was named in the League Two Team of the Season for the 2021/22 campaign,” a club statement read.
“Wollacott has signed a three-year deal with the club following the expiry of his contract at Swindon Town.”
The 25-year-old, who was born in Bristol, England qualifies to play for Ghana through his mother and he has 10 caps for the Black Stars after making his international debut last year.
Wollacott becomes the Charton’s third signing of a busy week, following the arrivals of ball-playing centre-half Eoghan O’Connell and attacking full-back Mandela Egbo.
