With SuperSport United star Ronwen Williams, linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, former Masandwana goalkeeper John Tlale outlined the difficulties that the Bafana Bafana international could face at the club.
Sundowns are known to be big spenders in the transfer market as they continuously look to strengthen their star-studded team. The reigning DStv Premiership champions recently added Sipho Mbule to their midfield roster, with the SuperSport United man coming in with a big reputation.
Another SSU star with a big reputation is that of Williams, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Chloorkop in the last couple of weeks.
Speaking on the potential move, Tlale mentioned that Williams has been in a comfort zone at his club and that he will have to compete for a place in the team, should he choose Sundowns as his next destination.
“Sometimes you may think you are the best, playing week in and week out,” said the former Downs goalkeeper to Sowetan Live.
“Even if you make mistakes you know that next week you will play. Let him go there, and I think he will up his game knowing that he won’t go there and relax. He will have to perform to his best in order for him to win the position.
“To be honest it is going to be difficult but he can go and compete. He is younger than them and those guys are at the end of their careers and in two years’ time I don’t think they will be the same,” he said.
“That’s when he will take over, but now I think they will give him a chance. He is a good goalkeeper. He proved [that] at Bafana Bafana against Morocco. Let him get out of his comfort zone.”
