Malawi’s hopes of reaching the 2022 COSAFA Cup knockout phase ended on Friday after they dropped points.

The Flames let a one-goal lead slip in their 1-1 draw against Eswatini in an encounter which took place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, South Africa.

Sabelo Ndzinisa’s stoppage-time goal cancelled out Khuda Myaba’s opening goal in an entertaining match.

Therefore, Malawi were eliminated from the competition, while Eswatini remain second in the Group B standings with a match left for both teams.

Meanwhile, Lesotho made it two wins in a row in the regional tournament when defeated Mauritius 2-1 in another Group B game which was played at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Tumelo Makha and Jane Thabantsho inspired Likuena to a victory, while Jacques Prosper netted what proved to be Mauritius’ consolation goal.

Group B leaders Lesotho need to avoid a defeat in their game against Eswatini on Sunday in order to win the group and progress to the quarter-finals.

While Mauritius and Malawi will meet in a dead rubber on Sunday.
