Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Mohamed Salah always had the intention of staying at Anfield and that the Egyptian star is ‘happy’ after extending his deal.
In what was news that kept Reds fans on edge for several months, Salah recently committed his immediate future to the historic club. Speculation was rife that Salah could end up leaving the 19-time English League champions with Real Madrid reportedly being one of the club’s that was keen on his services.
Now though, Klopp mentioned that he and the former AS Roma star had spoken about his contract extension and that he was always going to stay with the club.
The German mentor also gave insights as to why the situation took time and that the club is happy to retain the services of a ‘world-class’ player.
“I knew it would happen,” Klopp said on Liverpool’s official portal, as per Goal.com.
“I spoke to him obviously and it was always clear: ‘I want to stay’. But it’s an important contract, different things have to be considered and that’s what takes time sometimes.
“We cannot always fulfil the expectations from the outside world – there’s an ending contract, next year it will end, so sort it now.
“Things take time. But we are obviously experienced enough to deal with these kind of things.”
“He is very happy now that he can extend his time here. We are very happy, a world-class player.”
