South African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly strengthened their squad in the form of a 24-year-old Moroccan defender as the club look to address a key area for the upcoming season.

The Brazilians are known to be big spenders in the transfer market and have continued to rope in players from various parts of the world. Ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, Downs acquired the services of Sipho Mbule, a midfielder whose stock has risen in the last couple of seasons.

While the reigning South African league champions boast a quality laden midfield, the defence department caused the Downs coaches a number of headaches throughout the 21/22 season.

Masandawana saw players such as Grant Kekana, Rushing De Reuck and Mosa Lebusa pick up various knocks at different stages of the campaign, leading the club to explore options in the transfer window.

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, the club has turned their attention to Abdelmounaim Boutouil and recently concluded a deal for the 24-year-old Moroccan.

The report suggests that Sundowns have been ‘chasing’ the player as a potential replacement to Ricardo Nascimento, who played as a left-sided central defender.

It’s said that Boutouil is expected to arrive at Chloorkop ’soon’ as the club had already begun pre-season preparations.
