With Bafana Bafana competing in the COSAFA Cup currently, a South African star plying his trade in Europe believes that he has ‘enough talent’ to play for his national team.
Coach Hugo Broos and his charges are preparing to face Mozambique in the quarter-finals of the COSAFA Cup today, as they aim to go all the way in defending their crown. The encounter is set to take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium at 17:00 CAT.
Now though, 25-year-old Mihlali Mayambela, who plies his trade for Greek Cypriot side Arms Limassol FC, said that he has amassed enough experience to play for the South African national team. The young brother to Mark Mayambela, a popular figure in South African football, has been playing in Europe since 2016.
Having played in lands such as Sweden, Portugal, Israel and Cyprus, Mayambela mentioned that he is waiting for his team call-up.
“It’s a very tricky situation. With all due respect, I have enough talent to play for Bafana. I know how to play football,” Mayambela told Sowetan Live.
“Anyway, I am here waiting for that call-up. Let’s see what the future holds.
“However, it is not something that’s bothering me. As much as I would love to represent my country, I am not obsessed about it. There’s more to life than playing for Bafana but in my humble opinion I think I deserve to be there.”
