Mahrez unsure of fitness levels ahead of season opener

While Manchester City undergo their pre-season camp, winger Riyad Mahrez has concerns over fitness levels ahead of the 2022/23 season opener.

The reigning Premier League champions outlined a short pre-season camp before the new football campaign, playing just two friendlies before taking on Liverpool in the Community Shield on July 30.

City got off to a winning start in their pre-season preparation, following a 2-1 victory of Club America on Thursday, July 20. Pep Guardiola’s charges will now shift their attention to Bayern Munich on Sunday, July 24, at Lambeau Field.

Speaking about the club’s current camp, Mahrez mentioned that his side might not be 100% fit by the time they face Liverpool in the Community Shield.

“Obviously, I don’t know if we’ll be 100%, but we’ll be close,” Mahrez told City’s official website, as per Goal.com.

“We’re always used to being busy in pre-season, we’re all very happy, we like the training and the way we prepare because it’s the way we all see football.”

“It’s always good to go away and see different cities. We’re enjoying it here, it’s very hot but it’s nice to go away from your routine.”
