South African midfielder Bongani Zungu is reportedly ‘edging closer’ to joining former Mamelodi Sundowns, as the PSL outfit look to sharpen their squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Since 2016, Zungu has been plying his trade abroad in different spells with clubs such as Vitoria Guimaraes, Amiens SC and Rangers.
During his younger years in South African football, Zungu became one of the country’s hottest prospects while playing for the University of Pretoria. Subsequently, ‘Ben 10’ caught the eye of top PSL clubs but eventually decided on the yellow of Sundowns.
In a successful three year spell at Chlookop, Zungu managed to win two league titles and a Telkom Knockout winners medal.
Now though, Soccer Laduma reports that Zungu could be edging closer to re-joining the Brazilians and that the club have ‘made their intentions clear’ in looking to acquire his services.
The report mentions that while Europe is a priority for the skilful midfielder, Sundowns are patient in waiting for Zungu to make a decision on his immediate future.
Also, it is believed that the 29-year-old free agent has been training with the PSL giants ahead of the new season.
While such a factor could put Sundowns in the lead to land the popular player, Zungu is believed to have been linked with Kaizer Chiefs as well.
