Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock defeat in the latest round of DStv Premiership action, while Kaizer Chiefs secured their first win of the league season.

The midweek round of DStv Premiership fixtures kicked off at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday as Richards Bay hosted Marumo Gallants. In hoping to make it two wins on the trot, the Natal Rich Boyz were held at home by Gallants in a 0-0 stalemate.

Thereafter, Swallows FC and Cape Town City took to the Dobsonville Stadium in what was an eventual encounter. The Dube Birds looked lively during the early exchanges of the match, scoring two goals in the first half.

City then fought back and managed to level matters in the second-half, however, a clumsy challenge by Marc van Heerden inside the penalty box saw Swallows being awarded a late penalty which was converted by Siboniso Mtshali.

Over at the FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs recorded their first points of the campaign with a 3-0 win over Maritzburg United. A slicker, more organised Amakhosi entertained fans at the famous stadium, with coach Arthur Zwane praising his young player’s efforts after the match.

On Wednesday, AmaZulu claimed maximum points in a 2-1 win over SuperSport United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. After a goalless first 45, the game sprung to life five minutes before the hour mark as Thapelo Maseko gave SuperSport the lead.

Usuthu then scored twice in the space of 13 minutes, as Gabadinho Mhango and Bongi Ntuli got their names on the scoresheet for the Durban-based side.

In what was the surprise result of this week’s round of fixtures, TS Galaxy came away with a shock 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld. As expected, the Brazilians dominated but Galaxy held on to secure all three points.

Down in the Western Cape, Stellenbosch welcomed Orlando Pirates to a packed Dance Craven Stadium as the club’s shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Royal AM continued in their fine form, picking up a 3-1 away win against Chippa United, while Sekhukhune United secured maximum points following a 1-0 win over a spirited Golden Arrows outfit.
