With Bongani Zungu being unveiled as Mamelodi Sundowns most recent marquee signing, the popular midfielder revealed why he returned to Chloorkop and also, his trophy aspirations.
Moments before Downs 4-0 victory against Kaizer Chiefs, club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe introduced Zungu at Loftus Versfeld, much to the delight of the club’s supporters who were surprised to see him back in South African football.
Zungu spent three successful years with Sundowns before making his move abroad, where he plied his trade in lands such as Portugal, France and Scotland.
In opening up on his move, Zungu revealed that he wants to win the CAF Champions League, given Sundowns standing in African football.
“Before I signed here, you think about what you might bring and what you would like to achieve,” Zungu said on Sundowns TV.
“Personally it’s something that added to me making a decision to come back, that I would really love to go and compete for the Champions League.
“the fact that the club is also there amongst the best in Africa competing to win the trophy not just to be in the group stages but to get as far as getting another star, [FIFA] Club World Cup, so that is just very good.”
